Slashdot Science Story | UK Docs Perform First Remote-Control Heart Surgery.

“Doctors at a British hospital have just carried out theworld’s first surgery using a remote-controlled robot. The procedure fixed a patient’s irregular heart rhythm, and although the doctor was in the same hospital as the patient — just through the wall in another room — developers of the RC surgery technology believe this is the first step toward long-distance operations. Imagine a doctor in London performing surgery on your heart in New York!”

Quadski.

Combining a jet ski with a four-wheeler might sound crazy — in fact, it is a little crazy, but it’s also awesome. The Quadski ($TBA) is exactly that: a four wheel amphibious vehicle that tears it up on land and sea, with a top speed of 50 mph on either surface. Granted, we doubt it’s as good on land as a regular ATV or on water as a jet ski, but when was the last time you were able to drive your jet ski to the beach? [Thanks, Matthew]

Survive The Apocalypse In Luxury For Just $50,000 – The Consumerist.

Forget that musty fallout shelter your grandfather dug in the backyard. If you want to make it through the next zombie attack, earthquake or nuclear war in style, just write a check to Vivos, a California company that’s trying to build a network of swank shelters across the country. For $50K and up, you’ll get an underground home “designed to withstand a 50 megaton blast within 10 miles, a series of force 10 earthquakes, 450 MPH surface winds, a 1,000,000 volt electromagnetic pulse (EMP), and flooding submersion for up to 500 hours.” Of course, you’ll also have to sleep in bunk beds surrounded by 200 of your closest friends, and then deal with survivor’s guilt when you resurface after a year and learn that your less fortunate neighbors have already been eaten by the alien lizard people.

“Alpha Sigma Sigma has not only broken the rules included in each distance learner’s Online Application User Agreement, but they have also continually thwarted our efforts to create a serious online-learning community and an inclusive e-campus,” Capella Dean of Students Theodore Albertson said. “This rowdy fraternity has been a thorn in the school’s side for years, and frankly, we’ve had enough.”
